President Donald Trump said the U.S. forcibly seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship that tried to get around a naval blockade near the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, the first such interception since the blockade of Iranian ports began last week.

As President Trump maintains a blockade of Iranian ports, Iranian leaders rejected renewed negotiations and warned the Strait of Hormuz “will not remain open.”

Donald Trump says the ship tried to pass a US blockade: "The Iranian crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship stopped them right in their tracks by blowing a hole in the engineroom."

Trump on social media said the ship was warned by a U.S. Navy guided missile destroyer in the Gulf of Oman to stop, but it did not.

The news threw into question President Trump 's earlier announcement that U.S. negotiators would head to Pakistan on Monday for another round of talks with Iran. A fragile ceasefire is set to expire by Wednesday.
